new york moon (for vali)

Miso : ‘New York Moon (for Vali)’ – pinpricks on paper, 1.1 x 1.53 m / 2012   – {private collection, melbourne}

A work made for ‘Show White’ – an exhibition of artists working white on white, presented by Blackartprojects in Melbourne.
Made in a loose response knowing it would hang next to a work by Kathleen Knagle, a really brilliant Australian Indigenous artist, felt
compelled to make something as a dialogue, in complete awe to hang next to her. Thinking a lot about being in New York last week,
the idea and ethos of women dreaming & mapping, places and experience from memory, etc. Something of Vali Myers’ New York, & feeling
honoured to hang next to Vali for Outre Gallery’s Vali Myers book launch & exhibition this Friday night, so overwhelmed to hang next to two
Australian female artist greats in one week – so something thinking of them both, but a really loose & distant dialogue.
Otherwise, really enjoying sculpting & carving back from paper, drawing by reducing the paper rather than adding to it, improvising as I go.
